I hope it'll be back to how it used to be with the bike show and not like that bad attempt a couple of years ago?

Not many trees at Donington, it will be a pretty exposed 12 hours of riding.

OOh a sportive from near me - sounds fun - hope it's a decent route - if you need any ideas planning it I'm sure there are a few in our club could help with a route they seem to know every road in the Peak.

Will there be any road shows like those run in London at the Tour de France start? they are a great way to show cycling can be for fun for everyone, espically the Penny`s and "wobble bike"

too expensive for us, my wife and I fancied the 100km sportive, we also fancied the 4 hr fun. ut this alone cost £40.
the whole event would have cost £170 for all we wanted, or £80 just for the 4 hour night ride.
I got disheartened part way through the registration process.

I agree with the last posting this is all way too expensive. £45 for a sportive is ridiculous. i was hoping to do this one as it is local but it seems that I will have to look elsewhere

That would be fine if you want to do those things but effectively limits access to the sportive to people who want to do something else as well.

Hi Pongste
so the editors dusk hour ride or the dawn ride both 1 hour long and on a traffic free smooth undulating tarmac curcuit doesn't rock your boat? or what about demoi-ng a top end mountain bike on the purpose built mountain bike trail? not to metion the seminars, workshops, the watt bike challenge followed by a great night of cyclng entertainment with your nearest or dearest?

I'm sure they will be great fun but I'm not sure what my kids would be doing while I absent myself for an entire weekend. There will undoubtedly be many people who will chose to spend a weekend camping and indulging themselves in the variety of cycling pleasures you have to offer with like minded people. Some of them might also be lucky enough to do that with families who also share their interests.
I, and I'm sure many others, won't be able to join you for an entire weekend and I think it is quite clear that I wouldn't be availing myself of all the other ridng you describe in addition to a 7+ hour ride into the peaks.
Like it or not you are in a fairly unique position in making Sportive Entry conditional on attendance at, or at least payment for, additional activities.
I fully understand that you are passionate about the event (thank god) but it is somewhat sanctimonious to suggest that beacause I would like to do a sportive I would have to have the time, money and inclination to enjoy everything else you choose for me.

the mayhem/sleepless 24 hour mtb events provide all the things this new event has.
for around £50 each (£200 for a 4 or 5 person team), you have 24 hours of riding fun. £40 for 4 hours just doesn't compare.
there are also sportives but I can't remember how much they were.

Some of you may remember me from the old CP forum, and my location of NE Scotland. also the kicker off of the of Loons and Quines.
So now a new life in Castle Donington running a B&B. Very reasonably priced and cycle friendly. Monumental brekkie, covered area for cycle maintenance and drying out if you need it. No not AA but wet clothing..LOL
Website is www.mortonhousehotel.co.uk
Happy miles,
Pete
