Blog: Bike tossers

By Gary Boulanger, US editor

The sight of Scottish pro David Millar pitching his custom carbon Felt F1 over the barriers during the finishing straight of Wednesday's Giro stage 5 brought back fond memories of a pent-up Bjarne Riis in the final time trial of the 1997 Tour, but is this a healthy trend we've seen?

Millar's former Saunier-Duval teammate Riccardo Ricco pitched his custom carbon Scott Addict toward the finish line after crashing metres from the end of stage 2 of this year's Tirreno - Adriatico. No one's certain if Ricco or his bike were given the fifth-place finish.

  • Thats better!!

  • So easy to do if...

    1. you have not paid for bike

    2. you have a support car behind you

    3. you a a mate whos bike you can use instead...

However, the feeling of tossing in public a £7,000 GBP machine must be wonderful!

  • I'm a tosser...

...snowboards, mountain bikes I've tossed them all. A moped - tossed that. I even tossed an egg poacher of a balcony.

    I'm also a tosser.

  • ilbet you havent tossed a salad. hell yehh if i was a pro tour rider coming up to the last 1km of a stage and sooo ready to win and then the chain snaps, id toss the bike at the idiot who didnt put the chain properly. hope no one swiped it as like someone at the tourdefrance took a swipe at robbie mcewens bottle cage.

  • I was wondering that - it'd be quite a nice take home from a race wouldn't it? better than a water bottle.

  • Lovely wrist-action Dave!
