Blog: The Mongoose and the lion
Ah, rest days at the Tour de France. Everyone is happy to relax, take it easy, give low-key interviews to the press.
Everyone, that is, but yellow jersey Cadel Evans.
It seems Evans was a bit over-protective of the cherished plush lion he received on the podium in Hautacam Monday evening. As reporters were angling in for a money shot or a decent quote, someone inadvertently tapped the Aussie on the shoulder with a microphone. Yes, tapped.
Then all hell broke loose when someone thought it cheeky to pet the lion. One has to see the YouTube footage to believe it. So THAT'S why Evans has a bodygurd!
Procycling's Johnny-on-the-spot reporter Daniel Friebe also returns with his daily Tour blog, and it appears he's found a fitting nickname for Team Columbia sprint ace Mark Cavendish. Read all about it here. You can also listen to Friebe and others talk about Stage 10 during BikeRadar's daily Tour podcast.

Looks like Evans needs some protection from idiot journalists.

Got to say that he's a bit of an old winger for an Aussie!
