Brian Lopes wins Jim Beam Air Downhill at Crankworx

By Matthew Cole

The Jim Beam Air Downhill took place at Whistler on Wednesday on the bike park’s infamous A-Line downhill trail. US rider Brian Lopes won the event for a third time in a row with a time of 4:22.10. South African Greg Minnaar came a close second with 4:23.42 ahead of Chris Kovarik who finished with a time of 4:27.60. Team BikeRadar’s Marc Beaumont finished fourth.

"A-Line is a really great trail to ride, but when it comes to racing on it, you need to be on point," said Lopes. "It's a technical race and with the level of riders here, every mistake counts."

In the pro women’s race, Whistler local Rebecca McQueen took the top podium spot with a time of 4:51.05 ahead of Micayla Gatto of West Vancouver (4:51.82) and Alberta rider Stephanie Nychka (4:53.59).

"I love A-Line, it's a fun course and I just charged it. I think the rain we had the other day helped the course a lot," commented McQueen after her win.
