Knog Qudos - GoPro and DSLR action video light

World's first action camera specific light

Pronounced Kudos, and typed out [qudos], this action video camera light brings Knog’s experience in bicycle lights to a wider consumer electronics market. While not a cycle specific product, it will likely find space on many amateur videographers bikes and cameras shooting nighttime riding and other action sports experiences.

With up to 400 lumens claimed output in a waterproof aluminium housing, the [qudos] is designed to sit alongside a GoPro, mount to a camera’s hot shoe flash position, or onto a tripod. Knog says it will work with all GoPro Hero cameras along with other action cameras that use a GoPro conversion mount.

Three high-powered Cree LEDs offer three beam options with two output levels for each. First is the Action Sports Wide Angle, which packs either 400 or 225 lumens with 42 and 72 minute claimed run times, respectively.

The Target Spot beam offers either 175 or 100 lumens at 90 or 132 minute run times. And lastly is the Action Sports Ultra-wide angle with 270 and 70 lumen options – run times at 66 and 240 minutes respectively.

The battery is easily removable so those seeking longer run times will be able swap to an additional battery (sold separately).

Further details include a battery level indicator, a 5000K colour temp output, and waterproof protection down to 40m. The [qudos] weighs 115g (light and battery only) and will be available in black or silver.

Included in the metal case packaging is a USB rechargeable lithium polymer battery, USB cable, action camera mount (GoPro style), mount hardware and combination Cold Shoe (DSLR flash mount)/tripod adaptor.

Just yesterday, BikeRadar dropped into the Richmond, Australia, based head quarters for Knog. While there, we were handed the yet-to-be-seen action video light for review.

Running on a similar concept, we also saw an early prototype of a new iPhone compatible lighting system that plugs into the phone's charging port and uses Bluetooth for synchronized light control.

Retail pricing is US$119/ AUD$149/ UK£TBC/ EU€99. Stay tuned for more details and a review of the qudos.
