Rachel Atherton wins Val d'Isere downhill World Cup

GT Factory Racing rider in World Cup lead

Rachel Atherton (GT Racing) won the Val d'Isere World Cup in France on Sunday afternoon and extended her series lead over top rival Emmeline Ragot (MS Mondraker Team) with one round remaining.

Atherton won round six ahead by 1.49 seconds ahead of Ragot and 3.12 seconds ahead of Floriane Pugin (Scott11).

"The track is very difficult. One day it's dry. One day it's wet," said Atherton of the constantly changing conditions. "You never knew how it was going to be. It was like a guessing game."

Rumors had been happening that Atherton had crashed in the practice this morning before the finals, but she said, "I didn't crash, but I landed on my seat. It was the same as Fort William. You have to switch off and then switch back on for the race. It's difficult. I was so nervous."

Several riders were missing, including Jill Kintner, who is recovering from surgery following a crash, and Tracey Hannah, who crashed out earlier this weekend.
