The History of Mountain Biking is a special edition publication that charts mountain biking's rise from the dying embers of the 1960s hippie movement in California to the tech-driven super sport it is today.

It's been written by some of the world’s leading authorities on the sport and includes interviews with the iconic men and women who gave the sport its founding momentum: Gary Fisher, Joe Breeze, Steve Peat, Hans Rey and many others.

Editor Richard Owen said: "The History of Mountain Biking took around six months to create and is as far as I’m aware, the first time the full 40-year history has been told in one publication. With much of the story having been embellished, retold and disputed over the years, it seemed the best way to tell it was through the people who were actually there.

"With an A-list band of grizzled journalists, semi-mythical pioneers and off-road radicals all seriously keen to tell the tale, we were off and writing. But getting the stories down was only part of the challenge, tracking down the necessary photos (mainly from dusty archives) was in itself a painstaking undertaking."

The 156-page History of Mountain Biking goes on sale in the UK and Ireland on 24 January, priced £7.99. Stockists include: WH Smiths, Tesco, Sainsburys, Asda and Easons. Within a month it will also be available in the USA - including via Barnes & Noble - priced at $14.99.

The History of Mountain Biking can also be purchased online at www.myfavouritemagazines.co.uk.
