Franzoi signs with Liquigas

By Gary Boulanger, US Editor

Italian pro Enrico Franzoi signed a contract with Liquigas for the 2008 and 2009 seasons, leaving Lampre-Fondital and its director, Giuseppe Saronni after two seasons.

According to Belgian journalist and Procycling contributor Frederik Backelandt, the 25-year-old Franzoi felt the negotiations with Saronni were taking too long, and Franzoi's cyclo-cross ambitions were better favoured by Liquigas than Lampre-Fondital.

Franzo has won the Italian national cyclo-cross championships every year since 1999, when he was a U19 team member. He also won the U23 cyclo-cross worlds in 2003, and finished third in the elite race this past January in Belgium.
