By Mark Appleton

There is just a handful of places remaining for any super-fit mountain bike riders who fancy tackling the 15th edition of the eight-day Iron Bike event.

The endurance race passes through spectacular Italian and French Alpine landscapes beginning in the Comune of Entracque and finishing in Sauze d'Oulx involving a massive 22,000 metres of climbing over its 650km length.

It takes place from July 19 to 26 and to grab one of the few remaining entry slots visit www.ironbike.it

  • The hardest race I've ever done. Much harder than any of the Trans races. It's set in a beautiful part of Italy, massive climbs and descents.

Fantastically well organised, the food is delicious and plentiful and it's still small enough to have a 'family' feel to it :-)
