Work starts on North Lakes' ultimate mountain bike trail

Builders have started work on the longest purpose-built mountain bike trail in the UK's Lake District. The 19km trail will be built in Whinlatter Forest Park, near Keswick, as part of a £500,000 project to improve the facilities in the forest. It will involve constructing 15km of new singletrack trail for families and hardcore mountain bikers.
The work will be carried out by trail builders Clixby's. It's expected to take up to seven months to complete and will be officially opened at the end of summer. New features include rocks, drops and steps. There will also be lots of descents, jumps and rollers all linked together by singletrack. The surface will be made from locally sourced stone and is being designed to blend into the natural surrounds.
The Whinlatter Visitor Centre and Siskins Café will remain open to the public throughout the work, but access may be limited.
