BikeRadar Live: UK's biggest new bike festival

By John Stevenson, international editor

On the weekend of 30-31 May 2009, Britain’s new Grand Prix circuit, Donington Park, in Derbyshire, will host BikeRadar Live, a massive festival of cycling including an expo of the bike industry’s best gear, road and mountain bike rides and races, bike demos, and lots more.

The BikeRadar events team is teasing us by keeping full details close to its collective chest, but the weekend of riding and racing is planned to include:

  • A huge expo showcasing all the best bikes and gear from the world's top manufacturers.
  • The biggest ever What Mountain Bike and Cycling Plus Bike Demo Days sessions with test bikes from a vast range of major manufacturers on the Donington F1 circuit and on a purpose-built mountain bike trail.
  • The Mountain Biking UK Eight Till Eight 12-hour mountain bike enduro.
  • The Cycling Plus Sportive, taking in the glorious scenery of the Peak District (and the hills).
  • The Mountain Biking UK Eliminator dual slalom and dirt jump contest .

Other attractions will include a trials contest; technical seminars; a weekend-long programme of cycling movies and art; plus great food and entertainment.

There’ll be kids and family events too including a kids’ bikes demo, kids’ races and a family camping area.

Watch this space for more details as they come to hand and mark the last weekend of May in your diary for the UK’s biggest ever cycling festival.

  • I hope it'll be back to how it used to be with the bike show and not like that bad attempt a couple of years ago?

  • dirtbiker100 - we haven't organised a show or event since about 2000.

Mark_K - we did it just for you :)

  • Not many trees at Donington, it will be a pretty exposed 12 hours of riding.

  • OOh a sportive from near me - sounds fun - hope it's a decent route - if you need any ideas planning it I'm sure there are a few in our club could help with a route they seem to know every road in the Peak.

  • Will there be any road shows like those run in London at the Tour de France start? they are a great way to show cycling can be for fun for everyone, espically the Penny`s and "wobble bike"
