Giro d'Italia

Stage 8: Rivisondoli - Tivoli 208km

Giro 8: Riccardo Ricco nips Paolo Bettini

As predicted, stage 8 of the Giro d'Italia was one for the jumpers as Saunier-Duval's Riccardo Ricco beat world champion Paolo Bettini (QuickStep) in an uphill sprint after 208km from Rivisondoli to Tivoli Saturday.

In a surprise move, 2007 Giro champion Danilo Di Luca (LPR Brakes) launched a last second attack, coming from the back of the peloton in the final 300 metres before the Cobra (Ricco) and the Cricket (Bettini) stormed to the line, dragging another pre-race favourite, Davide Rebellin, to the line to round out today's podium.

QuickStep's Giovanni Visconti keeps the leader's pink jersey for another day.
