Marc Beaumont is becoming one of the most consistent British riders on the DH circuit. Having already podiumed in World Cup events this season, he achieved a second place at the European Championships on the weekend of 23-24 July. Unfortunately Fabian Barel was too good on the day and pipped Marc to the title. Oh well, it can't be long before the young MBUK/Santa Cruz rider's time in the sun comes and by beating a rider of the claibre of Steve Peat (who came third) all bodes well for the end of season races.
This weekend it was back to national competition, racing in the Atherton's backyard in Moelfre. Unsurprisingly, the Atheron brothers took the fight to our man Marc, with Gee taking the win and Dan taking third, sandwiching Marc into second place. Not a bad result but one that Marc will want to better before the season ends.
The European Championships were a good weekend for the Brits with two UK riders crowned European Champion. In the Junior men's race, Brendan Fairclough ripped down the hill to the fifth fastest time of the day in ANY category, to win his category by nearly seven seconds over another Brit, Ben Cathro. In the Junior women's race, it was no surprise that Rach Atherton got the win. In the Elite men's category there were three brits in the top ten, as already mentioned, Marc Beaumont was second, Peaty was third and MBUK/Santa Cruz rider Will Longden was tenth.
