PICTURE BY TDWSPORT.COM The president of the Hainaut regional government in the north of France has issued a statement revealing significant damage to the famous Arenberg forest section of cobbles on the route of Paris-Roubaix. "There is a dangerous section of about 200 metres corresponding to the end of the mining subsidence," said regional president Alain Bocquet, who added that work was in the process of being undertaken to correct the problem before this year's 'hell of the north' takes place in April. "The work can de done at a reasonable cost, and it must be done to maintain the most prestigious passage of cobbles in the queen of the Classics," said Bocquet. According to the La Voix du Nord newspaper, Roubaix organisers ASO are already looking at route alternatives if the Arenberg section cannot be repaired in time.
