Davide Rebellin has received clearance to represent Argentina in the world championship road race in Verona on October 3, it was confirmed on Thursday. Argentina's Minister of Sport, Claudio Morresi, and the UCI have both sanctioned the Italian-born Rebellin's change of nationality, according to the world number four's Gerolsteiner team. Whether it will also lead to Argentina's quotient of starters in the road race being increased, by virtue of Rebellin's UCI points, has yet to be announced (see Wednesday's story: "Rebellin to deny 'real' Argentinian?"). The UCI are set to comment on this on Friday. In recent days, Rebellin has apparently telephoned Morresi to personally express his gratitude. "I am very excited," Rebellin apparently told the Argentine Minister. "I hope to be able to offer my experience to help a great Argentine team, now and in the future."
