We featured a prototype pair of these in our 04 Preview issue and now we've had chance to put the production versions through their paces. The pedals are terrifically well constructed - they're machined into an unusual X shape from huge blocks of 6061 T6 aluminium and have heat-treated axles with well sealed cartridge bearings. Several tough pins provide plenty of grip, although they also do a good job of ripping your legs apart, so wearing shin pads is advisable.

The X shape is fantastic at shedding mud, which makes the pedals almost as grippy in muddy conditions as they are in the dry. This is rare for flatties and it's no exaggeration to say that there are no better pedals in the mud. Some of our testers didn't like the look of the X shape, but that's a very minor quibble when you consider how well the pedals work.
