Beckingsale and Giant Hit Ground Running!

Giant's season could hardly have got off to a better start as Oliver Beckingsale clinched their firs

Giant's season could hardly have got off to a better start as Oliver Beckingsale clinched their first win in their first race of the season, with team-mates Roel Paulissen and Bart Brentjens in second and fourth places respectively. The reigning Great Britain national champion, riding with his national selection, scooped first place in the Voroklini International MTB race in Larnaka, Cyprus.
It was Beckingsale's first MTB event of 2006 and has further increased his morale for the Commonwealth Games, his first big target of the season, in March.
'A result like this is a great boost for my motivation in the early season, it shows that all that winter training paid off and it will help me focus even more on the Commonwealth Games.' Beckingsale commented.
"I'm equally pleased that my trade team-mates were able to come through with such strong performances, it was a tough ride today for everybody." Both Paulissen and Brentjens were equally delighted with their results, demonstrating Giant MTB's collective strength in depth and also that the entire team have hit the ground running in 2006.
"I'm more than hopeful that Oliver will be on the podium in the cross-country event of the Commonwealth Games in late March, which is his next big objective after Cyprus." team director Sven Zeppel said. "Top five performances for three of our riders is a dream result for any squad and means we've definitely done our homework over the winter."
"Oliver's motivated and clearly got good form for the Commonwealth Games. The high temperatures will be a factor there that could play against him, but I think Oli' can definitely do something - and this win just goes to show it."
