Frenchman Bernard Sainz has been told he will have to wait until April 2009 before an appeal against a custodial sentence for providing banned substances to cyclists will be heard in court.

Sainz, known ominously in the cycling peloton as 'Doctor Mabuse' (after the character created by writer Norbert Jacques), is currently serving an 18-month prison sentence after being found guilty of administering doping products and working illegally as a doctor.

The court of appeal which is to hear his plea for a lighter sentence have set his hearing date for April 9, 2009.

  • You've cleaned the"doctors", you've cleaned cycling at the fraction of the cost... the delay with the hearing means he will sit the whole term in jail. Well done.
