Dahon folding bike champion of the universe

Who are the fastest folding bike riders in the UK? At BikeRadar Live we're going to find out in the Dahon Folding Bike Championship of the Universe.

There will be two races on Saturday evening – the Novice and the Seasoned Commuter – you’re welcome to bring your own folding bike, or use one of the fleet of 30 folding bikes supplied by Dahon and Brompton.

So what will the races involve?

Novice Race - 7pm

Open to anyone (over 18 years of age), there will be a Le Mans style start with a 50m dash to the bikes, which will have to be unfolded.

One lap of the circuit will then be raced, with prizes for first second and third – a Dahon MuP8 (RRP £589), bspoke clothing and Met Helmet respectively.

Seasoned Commuter 7.30pm

Open to teams of two and solo riders (over 18 years of age) there’ll be a Le Mans style start with a 50m dash to the bikes which will then have to be unfolded.

Riders will complete one lap of the track, after which they’ll stop to tie a neck tie. After completing three more laps, riders will stop 50m before the finish line where they’ll have to run to the finish line with their bikes folded.

Prizes for first second and third will be awarded – a Dahon MuP8 (RRP £589), bspoke clothing and Met Helmet respectively and only available to solo riders.

Entry to the Dahon Folding Bike Championship of the Universe is free through your BikeRadar Live entry ticket. Whilst not compulsory we'll be asking for a donation to the Geoff Thomas Foundation.

* For those using one of the demo fleet bikes it is mandatory to attend a dedicated ½ hour ‘how to fold’ session trackside at 3pm.

To help us manage the event we are looking to get an idea of numbers. If you are interested in participating in either race please click here and email us the following information

  1. your name
  2. which race you would like to enter
  3. whether you will be bringing your own folder
  4. if you want to use one of the limited demo bikes (these will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis)
