Blog: Raiders of the Lost Cause

By Gary Boulanger, US editor

Just as the 2008 Tour de France eases into its last few days, reports surface of French police searching the car of Johnny Schleck, father of Team CSC-Saxo Bank riders Frank and Andy Schleck. Procycling's Daniel Friebe wonders out loud just what's gotten into the Tour's organizers with the latest stunt.

Schleck's vehicle was stopped and searched by customs officials 30km into the 196.5km 18th stage which began in Bourg d'Oisans. According to an earlier report, customs officials in Grenoble later confirmed that "no doping products or banned substances" were found during the search which took place at Vizille in the Isere region of the Alps, which prompted Friebe to write his latest Tour blog before scuttling off to produce the latest BikeRadar daily Tour podcast.
