Shanaze Reade, the 20-year-old British Olympian and world BMX champion, will ride in the 4X competition at this year’s UCI Mountain Bike World Cup round in Fort William, Scotland.

Reade has already raced 4X in the UK but the race on 6-7 June will be her first chance to take on the world’s best mountain bikers.

The multi-talented rider already has a world track cycling gold to her name, which she won alongside Victoria Pendleton in the women’s team sprint in 2008.

Shanaze said of her mountain bike debut: “I’ve always loved mountain biking but this will be my first real test competitively. I want to prove that I’m versatile and I’m really going for a big year – aiming for BMX and mountain bike titles. I’ve heard great things about the course at FortWilliam – it’ll be brilliant fun but a major challenge too. Bring it on!”

Tickets for the Nissan UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in FortWilliam are still available from www.fortwilliamworldcup.co.uk or by calling 01397 705825 between 9am and 5pm.
