Bontrager Twentyfour12 update

Six weeks and counting…

The Bontrager Twentyfour12 takes place next month at NewnhamPark July 26/27, and event organisers have been busy with their preparations to make this year’s event better than ever.

New retail partner Mike Sanders of The Bike Shed in Devon has come on board and has also agreed to take on the duties in Neutral Tech Support. Mike’s enthusiasm, and the hard working mechanics he’s bringing along will ensure that the rider’s mechanical gremlins are catered for over the whole twenty four hours.

Mike said: “It’s an exciting opportunity to have a national level event coming to the South West and it gives The Bike Shed a chance to work closely with a major supplier and put something back into the cycling community down here by taking ownership of the Neutral Support area. The workshop guys are looking forward to working on the other side of the counter for a change.”

Clif Bar will be at the event as energy sponsors, and will be there all weekend with their great tasting bars. For Goodness Shakes will be sponsoring a Recovery Zone with massage, foot spas, free recovery drinks and more.

Entertainment for the event has grown this year with a band playing for the Friday night welcome party and a jazz singer out on the course to serenade the riders as they pedal away during the night.

Trackside camping will be on offer for at least 50% of the riders this year and the designated quiet camping area will also be close to the track. Event Technical Director Keith Bontrager will be test riding the course in the next couple of weeks and once he has okayed the route, a course profile will be available.

The twenty four hour and twelve hour Solo categories are both full, but there’s still some space for teams/pairs. Go to www.twentyfour12.com to get the latest update on how many spaces are left in teams and pairs.

Waste free event

Twentyfour12 is making a big effort this year to reduce its environmental impact and as such, all riders will be issued a reusable coffee cup that brings with it the added advantage of a discount on tea and coffee from the event’s caterers, Quaver. Quaver Catering have agreed a discount not only at the Twentyfour12 but at every event they cater for; all you have to do is turn up with your reusable mug from the race.

Quavers themselves will be using biodegradable cups, plates and cutlery, and recycling bins will be available on site where possible.
