The event - set in the heart of Bristol - is now a permanent fixture in the UK biking calendar and has been drawing riders from all over the country.
The last few years saw possibly the best course in the UK relay race scene and it was the playing field for the Team 12 hour endurance event on Saturday and the Solo 12 hour on the Sunday with a nail biter of a finish.
This year everything is going to be a little bit different. Encouraged by the overwhelming feedback in particular on our course with the new bridge, figure of eight route, the atmosphere and the running of the 12 hour event we decided to turn this event into a 12 hour event on the Saturday and a new 6 hour on the Sunday. We have also had repeated backing from our sponsor in RITCHEYcomponents who will help us to bring our event to an expectedly high level.
Saturday will see the RITCHEY 12 hour endurance solo and team event followed by the new for 2007 RITCHEY 6 hour solo and team endurance event on Sunday.
When and where
The date for this spectacle is the 9-10th June 2007 and everything will take place in Ashton court just minutes from the Bristol city centre. We will also have a great musical line-up, with live music and DJs running from early evening late into the night on Friday and Saturday. On top of that we will also have a broad selection of the latest bikes and kit, which will be available for testing over the weekend. Following the massive success of Bristol Bikefest '06 we are pushing hard to better things in '07, with this in mind we are changing things around again to make an even better event this year.
As the racing starts at 9am, to make the best of the hot sunny June daylight times, most riders arrive on Friday afternoon to camp for the weekend. New for '07 is a DJ on the Friday evening with a bar with food stands in the marquee, ready to set you up for a weekend of flat out racing.
The first 400 riders will get a free limited edition Bristol Bikefest '07 tee shirt and all entries received before the 1st of May get free camping so get in quick as it fills up fast and we only have limited space at the event.
The same great course will be there with super fast single track and the scaffold bridge to name but a few, this year will see the Saturday hosting the Ritchey 12 hour event for both teams and soloist and a new 6 hour event on Sunday.
This new 6 hour event is aimed at both new to the sport riders who fancy a challenge and 12 hour riders who can't get enough of the sweet Bristol singletrack.
Both days are aimed at the experienced rider as well as the newcomer. On Saturday we will have a solo, a pairs, teams of 4 and the NEW teams of 8 categories. So if you are not a big fan of riding in the dark you simply make sure that you are done by the time darkness sets in. The Sunday race will have the same categories except the teams of 8. All team sizes can be entered in the competitive, fun or single speed category. There will be a kid's race too which will be held on Saturday lunch time.
