Cadel Evans set for Giro return

World champion returns after eight-year absence

Australia's reigning world champion Cadel Evans will participate in the next edition of the Giro d'Italia cycling race in May 2010, race organisers RCS announced on Tuesday.

Evans, who joined the BMC team in the inter-season, will return to the Tour of Italy after an eight-year absence.

In the early stages of his career in 2002, Evans briefly wore the race leader's pink jersey for one day.

The 32-year-old, who is spending the winter in Australia, told la Gazzetta dello Sport that he will also compete in RCS's two other races, the Monte Paschi Eroica and the Tirreno-Adriatico, which will both take place in March.
