Cannondale ends Barloworld sponsorship

By BikeRadar

American bicycle manufacturer Cannondale has stopped its sponsorship of the Barloworld team after two seasons.

In a statement, Cannondale didn't give a reason for the split, but did thank the team for its successes riding their machines. Barloworld competed in the Tour de France this year, winning two stages and the mountains jersey. A key part of this, they said, was the involvement of team manager Claudio Corti, who has managed Cannondale sponsored teams for the last 11 years.

"It was with Cannondale's urging that we signed the services of Claudio Corti and we have enjoyed their close participation in this project," said Barloworld's Chris Fisher. "They saw our dream to race in the Tour de France and helped set us on that path."

Cannondale will continue to sponsor the Liquigas ProTour team in 2008.

  • Better than Cannondale at what? If you mean winning races, then seeing as Cannondale are not a team, then yes, Barloworld can obviously do better than them.

  • cannondale has a storied history of innovation and results at the highest level, and their current line of racing machines are second to none. barloworld will feel the loss of such a committed sponsor.

  • I don't think it's a great loss to BarloWorld somehow. After their performance in the Tour, I am sure the team can do better than Cannondale.
