I think he doesn't care any longer.
The Boardman brand has established itself as a genuine competitor in a couple of price brackets and bike types. The number of people saying 'I'd seriously consider one if only it wasn't sold by Halfords' only seems to be increasing, and with the testing of the water selling select lines through LBS's, I'd say it will only be a short while until the rest of the brand moves away from Halfords as the main shop front. I reckon you'll see the dedicated road bikes and MTB's more widely available in no time and Halfords will be left as the main stockists for the hybrids and mongrels that pepper the range.
Plus, knowing Boardman, he'd likely just see it as healthy competition to be beaten.

I don't think it is "their first carbon fibre road bike." I seem to recall the Carrera Virago being a prize in the phone-in competition on ITV's TDF coverage a couple of years ago. It was repeated so many times that even now I can hear Gary Imlach's dulcet tones saying "...your chance to win a carbon fibre road bike worth a thousand pounds."
