Cervélo TestTeam adds Quarq and Castelli

By BikeRadar

Cervélo TestTeam has announced two new team sponsors for 2009: US powermeter maker Quarq Technology and Italian cycling clothing manufacturer Castelli.

Quarq will supply the men and women's Cervélo TestTeams with bicycle data systems, including Quarq's CinQo power sensing cranks. T

"I set out three years ago to build a world class power measurement system," Quarq founder and engineer James Meyer said. "Our involvement with Cervélo TestTeam is a testament to how far we have come and is the perfect environment for us to further pursue this goal."

Quarq joins current sponsors Cervélo, Zipp, Speedplay, Vittoria, 3T, fi’zi:k and Rotor Bike Components.

"Any fact-based engineering effort requires data," says Gerard Vroomen, co-founder of Cervélo. "Quarq is an important piece of that puzzle and we are pleased to have them on board."

Castelli will also be using the team to develop and test new clothing. Proven champions like 2008 Tour de France winner Carlos Sastre and Thor Hushovd, and the up and coming riders, will be testing further developments in aerodynamic and lightweight clothing.

"Castelli has a rich history, but also focus on product innovation," Vroomen added. "In fact, they beat us to the TestTeam concept by over 50 years when they provided the legendary Fausto Coppi (a personal favorite of mine) with revolutionary silk jerseys to wear in his time trials."
