Fed up of conventional 4X? Why not remove your rig's chain and pump your way round the track? Four pro riders take up the challenge.
The locals at Hornton Hill track have an interesting way of making 4X more challenging - they simply remove their bike chains, making it impossible to pedal, and attempt to pump their way down the course without falling off or coming to a halt.
We witnessed chainless racing in action last summer and it seemed like massive fun. As a result, we've rounded up a bunch of pro 4X riders and returned to Hornton Hill for the MBUK Pump 4X Challenge. Unfortunately, it's winter and the frosty topsoil conceals a mass of thick, gloopy mud that covers the entire course - pumping isn't gonna be easy.
Two of the riders who've agreed to enter this 4X race with a difference are none other than 03 NPS 4X Series winner Scott Beaumont and his close rival Martin Ogden. The other two riders are some of the most promising rookies on the 4X scene. Scott has brought along his Beaumont Racing teammate Dave Richardson and Oggy's asked newly-signed Giant rider Luke Gamble to take part. It's a Beaumont Racing versus Giant Bicycles affair and it's gonna be ultra competitive.Who won? Read the new issue of MBUK, on sale 18th February
