Chance to become a qualified mountain bike guide

Training courses in Whistler and Verbier

Scottish adventure training company Peak Leaders are offering mountain bike instructor courses in Canada and Switzerland. Participants will come away with qualifications which should help them find work as a guide or skills tutor.

At Whistler Bike Park in British Columbia, Peak Leaders are holding a five-week camp where clients will be put through levels one and two of Whistler Blackcomb’s Instructor Development Programme. This teaches all the skills and guiding techniques required to lead intermediate to advanced level bike park tours anywhere in the world. The last week of this camp coincides with the Kokanee Crankworx mountain bike festival.

In Verbier, Switzerland, they are offering a six-week course in partnership with British cycling organisation the CTC which includes the chance to ride some of the Alp’s best trails and gain the internationally recognised Trail Leader and Technical Leader awards.

A spokesman said: "We want to enable clients to improve their riding in some of the best mountain bike locations in the world and come away with recognisable qualifications that will help them find work as a guide or instructor. Everything is taken care of – we provide quality catered accommodation, training five days a week, season lift passes, trips, first aid, bike maintenance and leadership qualifications, as well as the opportunity to meet like-minded people and ride some of the world’s finest trails."
