CTC offers breakdown cover for cyclists

The CTC, the UK’s national cyclists’ organisation, has introduced a Bike to Work breakdown package that costs £52 per year and offers breakdown cover, £10 million third party insurance and legal advice.

The offer has been introduced in response to the number of people who have turned to cycling in the face of increasing fuel prices and the credit crunch, and the CTC hopes that it can add to the current 2% of cyclists who are covered by a specialist insurance policy.

The breakdown cover is similar to that offered by the RAC and AA, whereby you and your bike will be picked up anywhere in the UK and taken home/to work/to a bike shop or railway station.

CTC Director Kevin Mayne commented on the issue of third party insurance: “It’s dangerous to ignore the threat of legal action in the event of a collision. What cyclists may not realise is many household policies that offer third party cover exclude road traffic accidents – so it’s important all cyclists in the UK make sure they’re covered.”
