Dan Atherton breaks collar bone in Italy

Dan Atherton of team Animal Commencal, has crashed and broken his collar bone on the first day of downhill practice at Val di Sole in Italian Dolomites, four days before he was due to compete there in the Mountain Bike and Trials World Championships.

The severity of the break is not yet known as the local hospital does not have an x-ray machine. Dan will leave for home this evening and will receive treatment in the UK in the hope of being fully recovered for the next World Cup round in Mt St Anne in Canada.

The news is a massive blow to the Great Britain team given Dan's current form, especially in 4X having recently won the Andorra World Cup round at the beginning of the month.
