Danilo Di Luca's two stage wins and fourth place overall at the Giro helped him to cement his lead in the ProTour standings. With 13 of the 27 events completed, Di Luca now leads Quick Step's Tom Boonen by 72 points, with Alessandro Petacchi another point back after his four stage wins at the Giro.

The series continues with the Dauphin Libr on Sunday, which partly overlaps with the next race in the competition, the Tour of Switzerland.
