Much like Predictor-Lotto's Robbie McEwen in today's Giro stage 2, the 21-year-old Cavendish hopped on Zabel's Milram train, then hopped off just in time to snatch victory from the German. Franaise des Jeux's Mathieu Ladagnous, second going into the final stage by less than one second to Dominique Cornu (Predictor-Lotto), won the overall classification by gaining a one-second intermediate sprint time bonus, then keeping his cool against Cornu in the final intermediate sprint. The Belgian was relegated for 'irregular sprinting' and penalised 10 seconds, allowing Ladagnous to take the overall classification. Frenchman Laurent Lefevre (Bouygues Telecom) ended up second overall.
