Entries open for UK heart charity's Ride of the Roses

Lancaster to York ride is a challenging 100 miler

Registration is now open for the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) Ride of the Roses. This challenging 100 mile ride links two of the UK's most historic and vibrant cities, Lancaster and York, on Saturday August 2.

To celebrate a new partnership between the the BHF and Yorkshire Tourist Board, all ride participants will be entered in to a free prize draw. The winner will scoop a one-day York Pass for two people, giving them free access to over 30 attractions, and a luxury two-night B&B stay for two people in nearby Pickering – provided by Big Bear Active, a family run business with a passion for the outdoors and cycling. They will also enjoy some guided mountain biking through some of Yorkshire’s most stunning scenery.

The ride is one of BHF’s Hearts First events which are a great way to raise funds to help the nation’s heart charity continue its vital and life-saving work. They also keep your own heart healthy and are a fantastic way to see some of the most beautiful parts of the country

Only in its second year, Ride of the Roses provides a stern cycling test but it is a truly fabulous route with some spectacular views.

Setting off from LancasterUniversity, hundreds of riders will head out across the varied and breathtaking landscapes of Northern England, including the stunning Trough of Bowland, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, GisburnForest and the rugged unspoiled scenery of the Yorkshire Dales.

With the majority of the route taking place on rural roads, participants will face some steep gradients and challenging hill climbs before heading through the market town of Ripon in the heart of North Yorkshirethen onto the final leg towards the finishing point in the beautiful city of York.

BHF event organiser Karen Swale said: “We hope the people of Lancashire will take part in this fantastic event. Heart and circulatory disease is the UK's biggest killer and your stamina and fundraising skills are needed to help save more lives. Heart disease touches us all. The chances are it has already affected someone you know, so please join in and get sponsored and support our event.”

Entry is £20 per person (over 16s only). To find out more about the ride, visit yorkshire.com/rideoftheroses or bhf.org.uk/roses
