Extra cycle parking at Liverpool Street Station
New two-tier bike stands have doubled the amount of parking at London's Victoria Street Station (Transport for London)
Two-tier cycle parking stands have been installed at London’s Liverpool Street Station, doubling the total number of spaces to 233.
The racks, which come courtesy of Transport for London and cost £61,000, are mainly on platform 10, with a small number at the Bishopsgate entrance.
This should bring the total number of cycle parking places at central stations to over 1,500, according to London Assembly Transport Committee figures.
The Committee found in its June report on cycle parking in London that facilities at central stations are heavily used and there isn't enough space for bikes.
It's the same picture across the capital – a recent London Cycling Campaign survey found that 99 percent of bike stands at key locations were occupied.
Cycle journeys in London have more than doubled in the past decade, with a nine percent increase in the past year alone.
The government recently announced that £5 million is to be spent on creating cycling hubs at 10 major stations across the UK, with secure parking and other facilities. These stations include St Pancras, Waterloo and Victoria.
Robin Gisby, director of operations and customer services at Network Rail, said: “The new double-decker racks are safe, secure and simple to use, giving more people the cleaner, greener option of cycling to and from Liverpool Street."

I hope some of this thinking goes into the current development at London KX.
With platform space at a premium during construction works it can be hard finding a free rack space after 5pm.
Especially when St Pancras was developed with NO bike storage and so all those commuters hop over to the KX racks.
