Specialist medical and rescue services Extreme Medics, who are regularly seen at UK off-road events (you'll meet them at the MBUK Demo days throughout the year), are now stepping into the role of event organizers: Extreme Know How Events has been born.
Jamie Todd of Extreme Know How told BikeRadar how it came about: "The events side grew from demand," he said. "We have been involved with event organization for a while but this has been mainly organizing retail outlet openings for extreme sports clothing firms, but now we have the opportunity to delve into the mountain biking world using our experience and contacts."
Their first venture will be the British Universities Sports Association MTB Championships that are to be held at Cwmcarn on March 7th-9th. University cycling clubs from all over the UK are eligible to enter and over 500 riders are expected to compete over the three days in cross country and downhill races for the honour of being BUSA national champions. The event is being planned to NPS standard with full race arena, sponsors, good prizes and retail outlets, bike demos and catering on site.
"Subject to final forestry and council approval the event will be held on the 7th-9th March 2008 at Forest Drive, Cwmcarn, South Wales at the Forestry Cymru purpose built MTB venue. This site has just finished a redevelopment and has rarely been raced since the courses were first built, despite its legendary status in the worlds of downhill and cross country MTB. The site will have facilities never seen at a BUSA champs before, including proper camping with toilets and showers, on site café and marquee with music and MTB movies every night.
"We are very excited about using this venue and are planning, in conjunction with BUSA, cycling races of international standard, which we hope will be talked about for all the right reasons. We want to make these championships an opening highlight of the annual summer race series and have organized an event that we hope will make non-university student riders pig sick that they cannot enter!"
Unfortunately you do have to be a University student to enter. If you are, entries will be available shortly on www.busacycling.biz.
