Paolo Fassa, boss of the Fassa Bortolo cement company that pulled out of team sponsorship at the end of this last season, has indicated that he would consider returning to the sport if he could secure Damiano Cunego's signature. Fassa admitted that he had tried to sign Cunego from Saeco and Lampre, but had his overtures rejected. Fassa also said that any new team he did back would once again take on Giancarlo Ferretti as its manager.

Meanwhile, former Fassa Bortolo star Alessandro Petacchi has been announced as taking part in February's Ruta del Sol in southern Spain. According to a release from the Ruta's organisers, Petacchi will lead a strong Milram team comprising Marco Velo, Alberto Ongarato, Maarten den Bakker, Fabio Sacchi, Alessandro Cortinovis and Michele Gobbi.

Milram have also revealed that Petacchi is set to take part in next year's Tour de France together with new team-mate Erik Zabel. Petacchi is set to focus on winning stages during the first week, while six-time green jersey winner Zabel will aim for a seventh points title.
