Quick Step are beefing up their Classics attack and the support they give to Tom Boonen in the sprin
PICTURE BY TIM DE WAELE The talented young Italian Filippo Pozzaato and the American-registered Italian Guidi Trenti have both signed contracts with Belgian team Quick Step for 2005, writes Susanne Horsdal. The two riders, who currently ride for Fassa Bortolo, will have different roles in the Belgian team. Pozzato has been signed to provide some more winning potential in the Classics and smaller stage races, whereas Trenti will work for team sprinter Tom Boonen. "Pozzato will relieve the pressure on Tom Boonen a bit and Trenti is a gift for Tom. Just as has been the case with Alessandro Petacchi (at Fassa Bortolo), Trenti will be leading Tom out in the last kilometre," explained Quick Step team manager Patrick Lefvre, who is keen to build a Fassa-like 'train' of lead-out men for Boonen.
