First Endurance introduces new flavours

Grape and Fruit Punch added to mix

Any exercise drink good enough to power the likes of recent Giro d’Italia winner Alberto Contador and his Astana team must be good enough for everyone, right? But cyclists are a fickle bunch, and if it doesn’t taste good…

First Endurance has introduced two new flavours of its Electrolyte Fuel System (EFS), the same during-exercise drink mix used by Astana, Team Columbia (formerly High Road), Gerolsteiner and Team Bissell.

Like the existing Tangerine flavor, the new Grape and Fruit Punch flavoured EFS were formulated to be low in sweetness so it can be mixed at double-strength in order to provide twice the calories and nutrients without being too sweet.

“EFS contains an ideal blend of Glutamine, Branched Chain Amino Acids, high-glycemic complex carbohydrates, simple carbohydrates, antioxidants and electrolytes to provide endurance athletes the nutrients they need to fuel working muscles and increase endurance during exercise and prevent cramping and dehydration” says Robert Kunz, a senior vice president of research and development at First Endurance.

“EFS also delivers a clinically effective mix of complex carbohydrates, glucose (dextrose) and sucrose because the latest research shows a mix of carbohydrate sources provides superior energy and endurance over a single carbohydrate source,” he added. “The overwhelming input and feedback from our [sponsored] athletes (when we asked them about electrolytes) was that they didn’t like having to take additional electrolytes pills or powders, they wanted everything they need in the drink itself.

Retail is US$21.95 for an 800g/1.8-lb container with 25 servings. For more information, visit www.firstendurance.com.
