First look: Bianchi Infinito road bike

By Matthew Cole | Saturday, Jul 18, 2009 11.00am

The latest piece of Italian exotica to grace the BikeRadar office is this Bianchi Infinito carbon road bike, as tested by South Africa’s Robbie Hunter at this year’s Giro d’Italia.

Replacing the C2C 928 Carbon, the new Infinito is said to be 200g lighter and is apparently more rigid as well. It features a slightly longer wheelbase and longer head tube.

It is constructed using the same carbon found in the company’s higher-end 928 Carbon Superleggera, using a new system where thin walled tubes are combined with a central spine to maintain a rigid structure. Bianchi’s first experiments with this design were on this year’s superlight (300g) 928 HOC pro fork.

Other modifications over the outgoing C2C carbon frame include a reduced head tube outer width and slimmer top tube. The internal cable routing has been modified so the cables exit from a port on the bottom bracket shell rather than at the bottom of the down tube.

Kit on this model includes a Campagnolo Athena chainset, FSA K-wing bar and stem combo, and carbon fibre Elite bottle cage. The price has yet to be confirmed.

For more on the Bianchi Infinito, read next month’s Cycling Plus. Expect the review to be scattered with the words light, rigid, stiff and super-smooth.

  • What a fantastic looking bike! Can't wait to read more about it in next months magazine, the big question is how much?

Does anyone know who makes the rubber cable/frame protectors in the photos... I've been looking for something like those for ages??

  • Jagwire I believe.

  • Luke - they're Jagwire Tube Tops 3G

    try http://www.jejamescycles.co.uk/jagwire-tube-tops-3g-id49858.html

  • You can also get them on probikekit.com (own branded). I found

and the Jagwire ones very hard to find and the JE James ones may not have been the split type (they were updated for 2009).

  • looks cheap and like a trek! what happened to Bianchi

  • In the flesh this is quite simply the most stunning bike I have ever seen, especially in celeste and white. Treks are not even in the same league. These photos do it no justice.
