First look: Gore Cosmo reversible commuting jacket

By Matthew Cole

Gore Bike Wear have produced a new commuting jacket dubbed the Cosmo Two Way which is part high-visibility cycling top, part casual waterproof.

Worn in commuting mode, the new £249.99 (yes, you read that right) jacket has high-viz panels on the arms, shoulders, waist and tail, combined with reflective piping and a black Gore-Tex shell.

If you prefer a less ‘cyclist’ look then you can turn the jacket inside out and it becomes a regular looking waterproof coat with two front pockets and reflective piping on the arms and chest.

The Two Way is made with Gore-Tex’s tried and tested waterproof, windproof and breathable fabric, and we’re looking forward to putting it to the test – check an upcoming issue of Cycling Plus magazine for the review.

You can buy the Cosmo Two Way exclusively from Evans Cycles in the UK.

  • Like the look of the Jacket.

Has the model you used for this photo shoot ever done any catalogue work? Great Pose!

  • £250!!!!

Seriously, that is a lot of wonga even for a quality product from Gore. If they want to compete in the commuter market they are going to have to target the Altura Night Evo and similar types, but those sell for well under a £100.

  • Nice jacket but serious dosh.

I could buy a cheaper altura hi-viz etc for my commute and have a nicer off the bike coat/jacket kept at the office for less money.

  • A commuter jacket must be reflective. PERIOD. All Gore have done in this section of the design is added reflective piping to the sleeves which, at best, is pretty insignificant.

As outlined by others above, you can get an Altura night vision Evo and stand out like a christmas tree, and receive a flashing night stick free of charge to clip on the back, for less than half the price.

Funnily enough, there is not one single Goretex hi-viz jacket with significant reflective material. The only way around this is to buy a Bore item and stick on some "Lightweights"

  • Hey, just finished my ride and reversed my jacket so looking good. But whats that wet sticky feeling on my back? Oh, its the crud soaking through my shirt.

    Great idea!

  • I'd rather have two jackets for that price. The casual jacket doesnt look particularly casual, and the hi viz jacket isnt very hi viz either.

  • Only positive thing of this garment is that Gore sizing and fitting is so much better than the likes of Altura and Endura that it might tip it for some.

  • might be worth considering once the price comes down.

  • Nice jacket but way too expensive !

  • What's the point of a 'hi-vis' version if most of the back of the jacket is black??? Why not make it yellow to give you maximum visibility to traffic approaching from behind (the greatest risk in traffic in my opinion)?

  • How does that work then? I thought the whole point of goretex is that it lets water only go one way. Does this mean if you wear inside out you sweat and get wet if it rains?

  • Most stylish high vis jacket I have seen.

Visibility in the right places with yellow and reflective on sides, arms and back, must look bright on the bike. Like the fact it's black where my rucksack sits but brigt yellow where it pokes out. Nice detail.

All other solid neon jackets seem to go faded yellowy/green after a season of use.

Price is pretty fair as well. Just had a look on their website. Coudn't see it on there but the price above implies It costs £30 more than the standard Cosmo and £20 less than the Fusion, which got a great review on here irregardless of price. So not bad for something new. Should last ages as well if it's like normal Gore stuff. Also much cheaper than my ski and walking jackets made out of GORE-TEX. Does their 'Garunteed to keep you Dry' statement still apply- great if it does!?

    When are they in shops?
