Free mountain bike skills courses in Swindon

All abilities catered for at Swindon trail centre

Almost a year after we reported its opening, the Croft Woods mountain bike trail in Swindon, UK is hosting four free training sessions over the summer.

Each session, which is being held as part of the GreatWesternCommunityForest’s Woodland Games Initiative, will be led by the CTC’s qualified off-road instructors from 1pm to 4pm on Sunday 28 June, Sunday 26 July, Sunday 23 August and Sunday 20 September.

Free bikes are available for the lessons where all ability of rider will be catered for.

Phil Mayger, a member of the Croft Woods trail maintenance crew said: ""Since last June's opening, volunteers have been hard at work on a trail for more experienced cyclists."

"Extending almost 4km further around the country park, the red route combines winding singletrack with technical features. These features - such as wooden boardwalks, rock gardens, off-camber flat corners, berms and small drops - are designed to help develop and progress bike handling skills. The idea is that you can ride past the feature the first time, have a good look at it, and then maybe attempt it next time round."

"The trail builders have tried to incorporate a mixture of the more common features found at trail centres into a short but fun loop that can be ridden two or three times for a more athletic work out."

CTC Cycle Champions Officer Tamina Oliver said: “Off-road cycling has so many benefits: It’s a great cardiovascular workout, helps to manage your weight, is a great way to explore the beautiful green spaces around Swindon and is a sociable means of getting some fresh air with your friends and family.”

To book your place or to reserve the use of a free bike, please contact Tamina Oliver on 07717696672 or email tamina.oliver@ctc.org.uk.
