PIC BY TDWSPORT.COM The French cycling scene will expect a boost in next year's ProTour, if Ag2r are one of the successful candidates for inclusion in the series in 2006. The candidates were registered with the UCI on Monday this week: they are, Ag2r (France) Communida of Valenciana (Spain), Acqua e Sapone (Italy), Naturino (Italy) and Selle Italia-Colombia (Italy). If Ag2r are selected they will be the fifth French team to join the ProTour ranks, alongside Bouygues Telecom, Cofidis, Crdit Agricole and La Franaise des Jeux. Selle Italia's cause may have been helped by the recent performances of climbing revelation, Jose Rujano, who finished third overall in this year's Giro d'Italia. Fassa Bortolo (Italy), whose continuation beyond this season was in doubt over last winter, have now confirmed financial backing and have also applied for a ProTour licence. The UCI have stated that the final decision on ProTour licences will be made following team registration and on the basis of the financial audit by Ernst&Young, which will be carried out on or before October 25 this year.
