German cyclist sets Australian crossing world record

German cyclist Guido Kunze set a new world record after crossing southern Australia by bicycle, covering 4,200 kilometres in seven days, 19 hours and 5 minutes in late October.
Kunze finished almost 16 hours faster than the former record holder, Australia's Richard Vollebreght.
The German's effort was officially recognised as a Guinness World Record, while promoting Polio Plus, a charity initiative of the Rotary Club International.

The 43-year-old from Mühlhausen in the German state of Thuringia rode a Ghost carbon road bike equipped with a Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 electronic gruppo.
