Gold shoes for Olympic champion

Olympic points race champion Marianne Vos has been given some special footwear to match her gold medal from Beijing.

The custom-made gold SH-R300 road shoes were a gift from Shimano and feature the firm's Custom Fit technology.

The Dutch 21-year-old, who rides for the DSB team and this year became the first woman to hold world championship titles on the road, track and in cyclo-cross, was delighted with the present.

She said: “These gold road shoes are a reminder of a great race in Beijing. I hope to get some extra morale!"

  • It would be nice if the performance of Nicole Cooke, world and olympic champion in the same year, could be acknowledged in a similar fashion.
