Gutierrez wins Italian Cup in Montichiari

Strong international field fighting for the podium

Spanish rider Ivan Alvarez Gutierrez took first place at the Italian Cup in Montichiari after attacking the lead group half way through the race.

He was closely followed by Frenchmen Julien Absalon and Miguel Martinez, with Marco Aurelio Fontana (Cannondale Factory Racing) just behind in fourth.

Fontana said: “I tried to follow him (Gutierrez), but he was so strong today. I am happy with this race, it was fast and hard."

The cross-country event, on a fast and challenging course near the city of Verona, attracted a strong international field and crowds of spectators.
