PICTURE BY TIM DE WAELE George Hincapie's unstinting and powerful work in the service of Lance Armstrong at the recent Tour de France has earned him the fans' vote in the annual US Postal Beyond the Podium competition sponsored by Clif Bars. As well as recognition from cycling fans for his efforts, Hincapie also receives a $10,000 prize from Clif Bars. "Riding in his 10th career Tour de France, Hincapie came through with his most impressive effort to date, finishing 33rd overall, but more importantly playing a key domestique role in helping his US Postal Service leader win an unprecedented sixth straight yellow jersey at this year's Tour de France," said the citation from Clif Bars. The award is designed to honour the often unsung heroes of cycling by asking cycling fans to vote for the US Postal domestique they believe contributed the most to the team's performance in the Tour de France. Hincapie received 49 per cent of the votes cast by thousands of cycling enthusiasts on the Clif Bar website during the Tour. Floyd Landis placed second in the poll with 30 per cent of the vote, and Jos Azevedo came in third with 12 per cent.
