Thor Hushovd became the latest rider to deny Milram's sprinters a stage win at Tirreno-Adriatico. After two second places for Erik Zabel on the opening stages, the long and undulating run to Civitanova Marche ended with Hushovd outpacing Alessandro Petacchi, after the Milram and Rabobank had kept the stage tight all day, allowing no break to get much more than a couple of minutes clear.

Rabobank's efforts ensured that Oscar Freire, who finished third in the sprint, kept the overall lead.
