Just in: Altura, Giro, Abus, Lake, Affix and Outland

Shoes, helmets, bike parts and high-viz gear

We’ve featured Giro’s Section pisspot helmet before, and now there’s a new range of limited edition colours to choose from. These include matte yellow, a raw finish with hand graphics and even a leather-effect model for that '70s biker look.

With eight vents and a comfy fit we reckon the £39.99 Section is good for the trail, dirt jumps and even short-distance commutes. UK distributors Madison only have one container load of the new colours, so once they’re gone they’re gone.

Altura

These £34.99 waterproof Night Vision gloves from Altura should help get us noticed more on our daily commute. As well as their stand-out colour they’re covered in reflective trim, and have a removable inner liner glove. They're available via Zyro in the UK.

As well as hi-viz and red options, Altura also offer their popular Night Vision Evo jacket in black. It might seem an odd choice for commuters, but apparently it's what customers have been asking for.

With plenty of reflective detailing, you'll still be seen at night but it won't stand out so well in daylight. It's made of a waterproof and breathable soft-touch fabric, and comes with a free Lightstick LED fibre optic. RRP is £89.99.

Lake

We’re hoping that these MXZ302 winter boots from Lake are going to banish our cold, numb feet once and for all. They have a waterproof upper and use material from Outlast and 3M Thinsulate to keep you warm. The Boa lacing system looks good for gloved hands and quick on/off action. Hopefully they’ll justify the £185.99 price tag.

Abus

German brand Abus are known for their locks but they make a range of other products including helmets, like this mid-range S-Force model, which is available in road and mountain versions. Features include an in-moulded design, 24 air vents, soft padded straps and Abus's ZoomPro fit adjustment system. It's available in four colours, and claimed weight is 250g. RRP is £49.99. Available via Zyro.

New for this year is a range of Abus bike luggage, including this £100 waterproof Dryve messenger bag. Made from durable 1000D Kodra, with welded and taped seams, it boasts 16 litres of storage plus a padded shoulder strap, removable hip belt, internal organiser file and a good collection of pockets.

Affix

We showed you the latest stems and singlespeed/fixed hub from KHE's sister brand Affix earlier this month, and now they've sent us their new MTB Freecoaster hub to try out. This allows you to roll backwards while pulling tricks on your mountain bike. Made of aluminium, with an 11-tooth cog and 14mm hollow alloy axle, it weighs in at a claimed 636g. RRP is £129.99. Affix gear is available via Raleigh in the UK.

Outland

We tested Outland's D31 Eight cockpit set this time last year and were impressed by its value for money – where else can you get a bar, stem and lock-on grips for £39.99? It's now available in white, again via Raleigh.
