Here's a quick look at pair of high-zoot carbon road bikes that have just landed at our Californian office from two top US companies, GT and Schwinn.
Schwinn Peloton Pro: Zippity-doo-da value spec
The US$2,299 Schwinn Peloton Pro frame is a semi-compact carbon fibre monocoque with SRAM's Rival ceomponents throughout. Mavic Askium Race wheels roll with Schwalbe Stelvio clinchers. A Fi'zi:k Arione saddle sits on a Kalloy carbon seatpost while Ritchey aluminium bar and stem complete the cockpit.
The Peloton Pro seems to pack a lot of spec for the price, and the mainly gloss white and gold finish highlights the clear coat carbon. At 18lb in a 58cm size, the weight's good too and we're looking forward to some saddle time on this bling machine.
GT GTR Team: Sculpted carbon, high-brow spec
The US$3999 GT GTR Team frame is a sloping carbon fibre monocoque with an unusual sculpted design. The Shimano Dura-Ace group includes Shimano's new Scandium tubeless wheels with Hutchinson Fusion clinchers. Ritchey WCS Carbon stem and bars are up front, with a Ritchey Carbon Pro seatpost holding a Fi'zi:k Arione CX saddle. All told the 17.3lb 58cm test sample looks to be a fun ride, even with the gray finish and flo green transfers.
